Biography

Francesca Hummler (born in 1997, DE/USA) is a German‑American visual artist whose photographic work examines themes of identity, personal narrative, and intergenerational experience. Her multidisciplinary background shapes a practice that blends scientific curiosity with conceptual image‑making.

Education and Early Career

Hummler earned a B.A. in Media Arts and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego in 2019. She later completed a Master’s in Photography with distinction at the Royal College of Art in London in 2022, developing a research‑driven approach that informs her artistic investigations.

Awards and Recognition

Her work began receiving international attention early in her career. In 2021, she was selected as a laureate of the Carte Blanche Étudiants award, leading to the exhibition of her work at Paris Photo, one of the most prestigious photography fairs worldwide.
In 2022, she won the Young Talent Award from the Vonovia Award for Photography, with her series exhibited at the Sprengel Museum.

Hummler’s photographs have been acquired by the Odunpazarı Modern Museum (Türkiye), underscoring the growing institutional interest in her work. In May 2023, she presented her first solo gallery exhibition in Erlangen, Germany, marking a significant milestone in her emerging career. Her ongoing project Our Dollhouse was subsequently featured in major international exhibitions, including: “Gen Z.
