About Cristóbal Ascencio
Cristóbal Ascencio (MX, 1988) is a Mexican photographer and visual artist based in Madrid. He holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Photography from the EFTI International Center for Photography and Cinema (Madrid, Spain) and a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Media and Advertising from CAAV – Centre for Audiovisual Art (Guadalajara, Mexico).
In the academic field, Ascencio currently teaches the workshop “Introduction to Auteur Photography” at CIEE Madrid, as well as the course “Postinternet and Photographicness” in the Master of Photography at the LENS School in Madrid.
Recognized as a rising talent, he was selected as one of the FOAM Talent 2024–25 artists and invited to major platforms including Plat(t)form 2023 by Fotomuseum Winterthur. In 2024, he received the First Prize in Foto Canal Libro de Fotografía.

Cristóbal Ascencio’s artistic practice moves beyond traditional photography to explore new visual technologies such as:
virtual reality,
data manipulation,
photogrammetry,
and post-digital imagery.
His work examines the relationship between images, memory, and identity, investigating how digital and physical traces shape contemporary ways of seeing.
