Sébastien Van Malleghem (BE, 1986)

Lives and works in Brussels (Belgium)

Graduated from the École Supérieure des Arts de l’Image LE 75 in Brussels in 2009, Sébastien Van Malleghem has been a guest lecturer at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) since 2017 and serves as Media Director at Yderst Europe (Belgium), an international photojournalistic project funded by the European Commission (2023–2026). A Nikon Europe Ambassador since 2017, he works for national and international press outlets (De Standaard, The Washington Post, Le Monde, The New York Times, among others), alongside commissioned work and long-term personal projects. He has exhibited widely in Belgium and abroad. As recipient of the BOZAR–NIKON Monography Series Award in 2015, he presented his work at BOZAR (Brussels) in 2015–2016. In 2016, he also took part in several international festivals, including the Angkor Photo Festival (Cambodia), the Zoom Photo Festival Saguenay (Canada), and Visa pour l’Image (France). In 2017, he was given a solo exhibition at the Dr. Guislain Museum (Ghent). Awarded the Belfius National Prize for Press Photography in 2018, he exhibited the same year at the Lumix Photo Festival (Hanover) and at the Musée du Botanique (Brussels) as part of Nordic Noir – Eyes Wild Open. His work was subsequently presented in 2019 at FOMU (Antwerp) and in 2021 at the Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi (Belgium), where he was a laureate of the 18th National Open Photography Prize for his series on Mexican morgues. More recently, he exhibited Allfather at the Concertgebouw (Bruges) in 2023 and at the Abbaye de Villers-la-Ville (Belgium) in 2025–2026. His work has also been published in several books, including Police (2013, Yellow Now), Prisons (2015, André Frère Éditions), selected among the best photo books of 2015 by Time, as well as Nordic Noir (2017, André Frère Éditions) and Yderst (2026, Éditions EXB).
