Marie Sommer (FR, 1984)

Lives and works in Paris (France) and Montréal (Canada)

Marie Sommer graduated from the École de la Photographie d’Arles (ENSP). She has undertaken residencies at the Centre Photographique d’Île-de-France (Pontault-Combault), the Cité internationale des arts (Paris), KIAC (Dawson City, Yukon), Villa Albertine (Washington, D.C.), VU (Québec), Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts (Tourcoing), and has been a resident at the Casa de Velázquez (Madrid). Her work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions, notably at the Kyoto Art Center (Kyoto) in 2014, the Gulbenkian Foundation (Paris) in 2016, the House of Photography – Deichtorhallen (Hamburg) in 2017, and the CNA – National Audiovisual Centre (Luxembourg) in 2021. Since 2019, she has been a doctoral researcher and artist at Figura, the research centre on the imaginary at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Her books Teufelsberg (2010) and Une île (2020) were published by Éditions Filigranes.
