Lucien Bitaux (FR, 1995)

Lucien Bitaux is an artist and holds a PhD in the arts. In 2025, he defended his doctoral thesis on the mineral condition of the photographic image, conducted between Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts (Tourcoing) and the Centre for Contemporary Art Studies at the University of Lille. This research culminated in the exhibition Soleils mineurs at the Centre régional de la photographie Hauts-de-France (Douchy-les-Mines) in 2025–2026. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs (ENSAD, Paris) in 2018 and of Le Fresnoy in 2022, the artist develops his own capture and display devices, which take on scientific apparatus-like forms.

He has undertaken several residencies, including with the European STARTS programme and KIKK (Namur, Belgium), with Ateliers Médicis in 2020, and in Chile in 2023 with the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

His work has been shown in solo exhibitions, notably at ADAGP (Paris) in 2023 and at the Fondation Vasarely (Aix-en-Provence) in 2025. He has also participated in group exhibitions including at La Villette (Paris) in 2019, Le Fresnoy (Tourcoing) in 2020 and 2022, the Espace multimédia Gantner (Bourgogne), Ososphère (Strasbourg), and the Chroniques Biennale (Aix-en-Provence) in 2022.

Following the latter, he received the Fondation Vasarely / Chroniques Prize in 2023. A recipient of the ADAGP Revelation Award for Digital Art and Video Art in 2022 (Paris), he continued with the Artes Mediales Biennial (Santiago, Chile) in 2023, and exhibitions at Atelier W (Pantin) in 2023, Kunstenlab (Deventer, Netherlands), and the La Fabrique du Regard festival at Le BAL (Paris) in 2025.
