Laurent Millet (FR, 1968)

Lives and works in La Rochelle (France)

Graduated of the École supérieure européenne d’art de Bretagne – Lorient, Laurent Millet worked as assistant to French photographers Lucien Clergue and Jean Dieuzaide. He is also a lecturer at the École supérieure d’art et de design d’Angers (TALM). A member of the Casa de Velázquez from 2007 to 2008, he received the Nadar Prize (Gens d’Images) in 2014 and the Niépce Prize in 2015. His work has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions. Notably, he exhibited at the New Mexico Museum of Art (Santa Fe, USA) in 1999–2000, at the Rencontres Photographiques de Lectoure in 2001, at the Hôtel des Arts (Toulon) in 2005, and at the Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles in 2009. In 2012, he exhibited at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature (Paris), followed by a first retrospective at the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Angers) in 2014. His work was subsequently shown at the Musée Nicéphore Niépce (Chalon-sur-Saône) in 2016, and more recently in 2024 at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (Paris) and at the Centre photographique de Rouen. His works are included in major collections, notably in France at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Fonds national d’art contemporain, and the Maison européenne de la photographie (Paris), as well as in the United States at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and Santa Fe. Several monographs have been devoted to his work, including the recent À peu près Euclide (Fotokino, 2023).
