Laurent Lafolie (FR, 1963)

Lives and works in Salies de Béarn (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France)

In his early years, Laurent Lafolie collaborated with contemporary choreographers. Since 2005, his research has been focused on independent artistic projects exploring the mechanisms of image perception, using the human face as his primary medium. His work is regularly shown in solo exhibitions in France and internationally, and has been presented at major events such as Paris Photo (France) and Art Paris (2023–2025). He has also exhibited at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (Paris) in 2022–2023 and 2023–2024, at the Musée Réattu (Arles) in 2023, at Manifesta (Lyon) in 2024, and at the Musée des Abattoirs and the Galerie du Château d’Eau (Toulouse) in 2024–2025. His work will be presented at the Fondazione Lercaro (Bologna) in 2025–2026. In recent years, the artist has undertaken several residencies in France and abroad, including Indonesia, Iceland, South Korea, and Spain. He was awarded the Collection Florence & Damien Bachelot Print Prize in 2022, a carte blanche from the Fondation Louis Roederer in 2024, and a carte blanche from the Centre photographique Rouen Normandie in 2025–2026. His works have been held in the collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France since 2015, as well as in several other prestigious public and private collections.
