Flower Power

Flower Power takes its inspiration from the book by Beata Nowak and Michel Poivert (published by Textuel, 2025).

Building on their analyses, a discussion continued with the curatorial team at Hangar, culminating in a proposal for an original exhibition.

The relevance of the ‘floral’ theme in contemporary photography continues to grow. How can we showcase the presence and diversity of the floral motif? How can we also understand and interpret it whilst giving space to works characterised by their eclecticism?

Photographers explore the flower; it inspires and embodies both aesthetic and political stances: what do flowers symbolise? And how has photography, in the diversity of its contemporary practices, chosen to engage with them, even though flowers have long been confined to the role of an ornamental and decorative motif…

As we mark the Bicentenary of Photography, the exhibition will highlight the use of techniques that reinvent the photographic medium through experimentation and the revival of historical processes. The flower thus becomes a photographic laboratory, undergoing technical and aesthetic transformations that bridge the era of invention with the latest innovations in AI.
