Sylvie Bonnot / Prisme liquide
This publication draws on Sylvie Bonnot’s recent research into landscape, particularly in French Guiana’s Amazon rainforest, as well as questions surrounding the sharing and depletion of natural resources, foremost among them water.
Through her unique “mue” (shedding) process, she gives these concerns a tangible, physical dimension. The book also offers an opportunity to explore her artistic approach, while placing these ecological concerns in dialogue with photography itself, as the medium celebrates its bicentenary.
Dedicated text by Michel Poivert: The Dissolution of Images : A photographic essay born of a reflection through and upon the image, pursued to the point of its dispersal.
Supported by the CNL Bicentenary Fund, the body of work was informed by recent research conducted by pirogue along the Upper Maroni River in French Guiana.
Conceived in the spirit of an artist’s notebook, Prisme liquide brings together the depletion of the image, the exhaustion of my moulting process, and that of water itself — a critical resource, a subject, and a fragile field of inquiry.
Most of the original moults in this series were produced at the Centre d’art et de photographie de Lectoure during my 2026 Capsule residency, La nature des sols. The body of work was subsequently enriched through exchanges with the team of the Planches Contact Festival in Deauville.
