“I go with you and alone in the happy light of accomplished hours. Elizabeth and I are sisters. We are all sisters,” wrote Erica Lennard in 1976 in the epigraph to her book Les femmes, les sœurs (Women, Sisters). This work, constructed as a dialogue between poems written by Elizabeth and portraits of her and their friends, offers a nuanced and intimate vision of sisterhood, now reinvented by a new generation of feminists. On the occasion of the exhibition presented at the Rencontres d'Arles 2025, this book revisits for the first time the history of this seminal project, from its genesis to its reception, based on previously unpublished archives.
