Chrystel Mukeba (BE, 1983)

Lives and works in Brussels (Belgium)

Chrystel Mukeba studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, graduating in 2010. She exhibits regularly in Belgium and abroad and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, including at La Châtaigneraie – Walloon Centre for Contemporary Art (Flémalle) in 2022, at CIVA (Brussels) in 2023, and at the International Biennial of the Photographic Encounters of Guyana (Saint-Laurent, French Guiana) in 2023. Her work can also be seen in 2024–2025 at CENTRALE for Contemporary Art Brussels. In parallel, in 2024, Chrystel Mukeba launched her project I’ve Never Seen My Father Cry, supported by several grants, which she continued in 2025 with a second chapter. The same year, an exhibition dedicated to this work was presented at FOMU (Antwerp), which also acquired her work for its collection, while the artist showed works at Modern Art Oxford (UK) and at the International Festival of Contemporary Photography Kranj Foto Fest (Slovenia). Following these projects, she will exhibit in 2026 at the Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi. Her series Portraits Style Congo was recently acquired by KANAL – Centre Pompidou (Brussels) and featured in the opening display of the institution’s collection.
